Celebrant Testimonial (from a Celebrant!)

Celebrant Testimonial (from a Celebrant!)

For Celebrant Jamie Eastgate of Brisbane City Celebrants

As a Celebrant you never know who might be a guest at a wedding you are the Celebrant for. I found out after this particular wedding that a fellow Celebrant was amongst the guests and was kind enough to contact me with the following feedback and permisison to share this publically.

Brisbane City Celebrants Jamie Eastgate Fist pumping over this feedback!

Brisbane City Celebrants Jamie Eastgate Fist pumping over this fellow Celebrants feedback!

It’s worth mentioning that as Celebrants we tend to witness ceremonies through slightly different eyes, we listen out to hear if the legal wording is correct, we are looking to see if the couple are at ease and if everything is coordinated smoothly, if the PA equipment is of high quality, I could go on but I’m sure you get the gist.

“Hi Jamie,

We met briefly at Dash and Ben’s wedding. While I will leave it up to them to comment on their experience with you, I just thought I would give some extra weight to their inevitably positive comments by putting in with my ‘2 cents worth’ as a former Authorised Marriage Celebrant (one of the busiest and preferred on the Gold Coast – one of Australia’s most competitive markets) who ‘handed in his badge and gun’ due being too busy with another business.

There is a distinct balance that any marriage celebrant has to manage – that between ceremony length, and ceremony meaning. Mate, you hit it out of the park!

What an absolute delight to see the bride walk down the aisle to a song that had a genuine meaning to the couple, and gave those present a real insight into their relationship. Better yet, you helped them to ‘cultivate’ some of the most beautiful vows I’ve ever heard.

The vows are always a tough one. Often (not always) the groom comes to you with one sentence, and the bride a 400 page novel! Sometimes, vice versa! Providing suggestions in this case is the domain of a Celebrant – and you clearly did this with distinction and care.

I also appreciated your ability to blend the legally required wording within the ceremony – so that it didn’t sound forced or out of place. This, as I am sure you understand, is one of the most difficult challenges to any celebrant. The words are very much bureaucratic ‘speak’, while the ceremony still needs to be loving.

Unlike many other celebrants, your ceremony was carefully and creatively worded, 100% legal, and beyond that – one of the (many catholic, church going attendees) will give serious thought to replicating in the future.

I spoke to a number of the group afterwards who had gone for the ‘full church wedding’ – and they were 100% astonished (in a positive way) about your ceremony.

Customers often don’t understand why a Celebrants fees are what they are – the reality is, there is “many many many” hours behind the scenes that goes into a successful wedding.

In your case (unlike many celebrants who create clumsy or even illegal ceremonies), it’s money very well spent!”

Will Collyer – Former Marriage Celebrant, Gold Coast

A huge thank you to Will for taking the time to contact me and provide this feedback, receiving a Celebrant Testimonial (from a Celebrant!) of this calibre means so much!

It was a perfect sunny day, we had a harpist playing the ceremony music and the ceremony concluded with a dove release.

Reception Location: The Botanical, Mt Coot-tha

Tell us about your reception:

We enjoyed a nice outdoor deck setting overlooking the Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens with great food and great service.

What we loved:

The day was perfect – nice and sunny! We loved the harpists music and having a dove release during our ceremony. We got some great photos from our photographer, the botanical gardens made the perfect backdrop for our wedding, they were stunning!

The reception was refreshing with great food and service and the wedding cake was very delicious and looked gorgeous. We had a lunchtime wedding reception at The Botanical and the venue and staff were great, we never felt rushed by the staff even though we stayed a little late, which was lovely of them, and most important of all our guests all had a really lovely time.

Describe your experience with Jamie Eastgate from Brisbane City Celebrants:

From start to finish Jamie helped us all the way throughout the process, he made us both feel very relaxed on the day and ensured the ceremony all went completely smoothly. He organised all the marriage paperwork and gave us some great advice for the day, which really helped the day come together so well .

Tell us about any other wedding suppliers that you were impressed with:

Venue – The Botanical Cafe in Mt Coot-tha, our Botanical wedding planner went above and beyond to make sure our wedding reception was perfect.

Wedding Harpist – Sally Beaumont was great

Photography – Peta Boardman Photography, the photos turned out wonderful, everyone was blown away.

Your advice to bride and grooms to be:

Think about the difference between needs and wants as the important things are your love for each other and of course your guests as well. Also prepare yourself to be flexible during your planning.

Tips for weddings with children

Tips for weddings with children

With Celebrant Cara Hodge of Brisbane City Celebrants

Let’s talk children at weddings. While some couples opt for child free weddings, others embrace the joy of having excited children involved in their day, particularly when their own children get to play a very special role in their day.

There are many ways to include little ones in your ceremony which depending on their age may involve including a very special mention of them in the ceremony wording or giving them the role of ring security or flower girl, to having them present readings, hand out bubbles, be ushers or be in the bridal party if they are a little older.

Having performed many weddings with children involved the best advice we can give is simply to let children be children.

If they see Mum and Dad stood at the front looking like a Prince and Princess out of a Disney movie, naturally they will be curious and will instinctively want to wonder up and join them, we absolutely encourage this. Trying to keep them away could potentially result in a mid-ceremony tantrum.

We believe having your own child or children around you during the ceremony, adds to the love shared between the family and let’s face it, it doesn’t get much cuter than having a little page boy dressed as a mini-me of his Daddy or a flower girl up there clinging on to Daddy’s leg!

For guests with babies and young children that have also been invited along, the etiquette at weddings is generally to sit towards the back so if baby decides to let out an almighty scream just for giggles, they can quickly exit out of ear shot without any disruption to the ceremony.

If you are expecting a few excitable toddlers may be running around before or after the ceremony, consider child friendly decorations, for example cylinder glass vases or candles lining the aisle or on pedestals may be an accident waiting to happen. Consider keeping potentially breakable décor to a minimum or out of reach and if you’re expecting lots of kiddies to be present, perhaps even have a ‘kids zone’ or welcome toy that can keep occupied. Bubbles are a great way to entertain little ones at weddings and also make for some really great photos.

Finally, as cute as little ring bearers are, avoiding giving them the actual rings until the very last minute. It’s all fun and games when he’s whacking Uncle Phil with the ring cushion, until a ring goes AWOL. Best to have the rings well tied to the little ribbons on the ring cushion and to hand them over to the ring bearer at the last minute.

Most of all involve and enjoy your little ones as they will play a huge part of the magical memories of your special day.

Big thanks to Gabbi and Dan and their sweet son Blaine for allowing us to share these beautiful photos from your wedding at Riverlife and also to Naomi V Photography for capturing these fantastic images.

Why everyone loves a sunset wedding ceremony

Why everyone loves a sunset wedding ceremony

With Celebrant Cara Hodge of Brisbane City Celebrants

We are so excited to have our article about sunset wedding ceremonies published on the Polka Dot Bride Wedding Blog!

With weddings now becoming less traditional, and more about couples doing it their way and putting their own personal stamp on their day, there’s never been a better time for couples to really consider their wedding day schedule, in particular the time their ceremony takes place.

In Brisbane the vast majority of wedding ceremonies typically take place at around 3pm. The primary reason being this gives the photographer 1-2 hours of beautiful golden light to take advantage of during the couples post wedding photo shoot, before the bride and groom make their way to rejoin the guests at the reception, so here’s some food for thought.

Brisbane City Celebrants sunset wedding ceremony guide as published on Polka Dot Bride

Brisbane City Celebrants sunset wedding ceremony guide as published on Polka Dot Bride

With the wedding ceremony being the most special part of the day, what if it took place at the most jaw dropingly beautiful time of the day? in that gorgeous golden light, with everyone present getting to share in the stunning sunset as the bride and groom share their heartfelt vows and first kiss as husband and wife to the romantic and dramatic backdrop of a beautifully lit up sky.

Sunset Wedding Photos by Leah Cruikshank Photography

Sunset Wedding Photos by Leah Cruikshank Photography

Naturally a gorgeous sunset ceremony requires a little tweaking to the traditional wedding day schedule, so here’s some tips on planning the perfect sunset ceremony.

Firstly most wedding photographers will no doubt still love the opportunity to shoot you as a couple in natural daylight. A great way to do this is as a ‘First Look’ or ‘Reveal’ shoot, a couple of hours before the ceremony takes place, at a different location when the photographer captures the grooms reaction when he sees his beautiful bride for the very first time, minus the nerves that often accompany having all the families and friends present during this special moment.

Not only does a first look shoot mean that you get to include this extra special element in your day and your photo album, and have a stunningly romantic sunset ceremony, it also means that once the ceremony has concluded you get to stay and immediately celebrate with your guests instead of being whisked away from them for photos.

The guests will love it too not only for experiencing the most beautiful sunset ceremony, but also for being a cooler time of day and most of all for not being separated from the stars of the show (you!) and having to endure the ‘waiting around’ time that typically takes place between a ceremony and reception.

The sunset ceremony schedule also takes away the pressure of having to organise entertainment and additional refreshments to keep the guests occupied between the ceremony and reception.

As the sun sets, this is also an opportunity for the photographer to showcase their night time photography skills and creative lighting techniques with sparklers and candle lighting.

Considerations when having a sunset ceremony, include:

  • Choosing an open ceremony location that is easily accessible and will embrace the sunset;
  • Considering where you will stand to get the best effect from the sunset and without the sun in your or your guests eyes;
  • If the ceremony is outdoors, as it will get dark fairly quickly once the sun has set, consider assigning ushers or groomsmen to assist in promptly directing the guests on to the reception area for refreshments;
  • Consider adding ambient lighting as ceremony décor, like strings of light bulbs, candles or a sparkling chandelier over the ceremony to enhance with the romance of the sunset.

If you love the idea of a sunset ceremony for your wedding, experienced Brisbane Celebrants Ciara and Jamie would love to hear from you contact us to confirm availability.

Happy wedding planning!

Surprise wedding at 66 on Ernest in Southbank

With Celebrant Jamie Eastgate of Brisbane City Celebrants

I loved having such an integral role in pulling off this surprise wedding at 66 on Ernest in Southbank.

Nikky Elizabeth Photographer was on hand to capture these magical moments when half way through the fun joint birthday party of the bride and groom, the secret room was revealed, the music played and to everyone’s surprise the birthday girl had transformed in to a glowing bride making her way down the aisle to her waiting groom.

There is something very special about surprise weddings, as the room of loved ones simultaneously fills with gasps, cheers and elation when they realise that to their surprise, they are actually about to witness a wedding!

66 on Ernest surprise wedding6

Nikky Elizabeth Photographer was kind enough to surprise me by sending these photos through accompanied by the following kind words “We all commented on how good you were as a Celebrant”.

Oh shucks, thank you Nikky. It really is so important for all the bride and grooms wedding suppliers to work well together and I am all about working as a team with photographers, DJ’s and venue staff.

I am always as accommodating as I can be and will always step to the side and well out of the way when it comes to the bride and grooms first kiss as husband and wife, so you will never catch me photo bombing this once in a lifetime shot.
