An intimate Brisbane Elopement

An intimate Brisbane Elopement

With Celebrant Jamie Eastgate Brisbane City Celebrants

The adorable Saskia and James are sharing their inspiration for their sweet elopement style wedding ceremony which took place in Brisbane’s Botanical Gardens.

We chose a small, intimate wedding ceremony to focus solely on us and our relationship. There were a few practical reasons why we decided to have a small, intimate ceremony such as our extended families living in different countries and the sheer cost of a traditional ceremony and reception.

The main thing is we believe that everybody’s wedding should be a reflection of their relationship.

This loved up duo arrived together hand in hand.

Our Celebrant Jamie Eastgate was extremely professional from the moment we first made contact with him about our planned private wedding ceremony. Jamie was extremely personable and showed genuine excitement and interest in what we envisioned for our day.

He supplied lots of extra information that really made the entire experience stress-free and easy to manage, including a helpful vow writing worksheet.

Here are the vows we wrote to each other:

James Vows to Saskia

Saskia, I promise that I will be a loving husband to you from this day forth forever. You are a headstrong, determined and inspiring woman who has opened my eyes to the best of this world. Ever since we first met, you have been by my side, as I grow into the man I am on this day, and into the future. I promise to always have you by my side. Together we can accomplish anything, and continue to experience the best of this world through each other. Today, I promise to love, support and respect you for the rest of my life.

Saskia’s vows to James

James, I am so proud to take you as my husband. I love your caring nature, your enthusiasm and your passion. When I’m with you, I can be the person I want to be. Thank you for being who you are. You have helped me become the person I am today. You bring out the best in me, and I cannot imagine my life without you. I promise to always have you by my side; to be with you forever, just as you are. Today, I promise to love, support and respect you for the rest of my life.

A friend and our Photographer were official witnesses which kept our ceremony intimate and relaxed.

Our ceremony was perfect and went exactly the way we imagined!

Having what some might consider a ‘non-traditional’ wedding highlights our unique personalities and traits. A private ceremony appealed to us because we could get married stress-free knowing that the day was relaxed and natural, rather than having to worry about following standard protocol and tradition.

Eat Street Markets Wedding

Eat Street Markets Wedding

With Cara Hodge of Brisbane City Celebrants

Lauren and Andy’s wedding which began at Brisbane’s Newstead Rotunda and finished with a vibrant and fun filled Eat Street Markets wedding reception is EVERYTHING!

This easy going couple opted for a simple modern ceremony that not only celebrated their relationship, but was also a celebration of them as a family, so their gorgeous little daughter Bella was as much a part of their day as they were.

The ceremony began with some pre-wedding announcements which provides the guests all the info they need and answers all the common questions, and also sets the tone for the ceremony. This was also a great opportunity to remind guests that they can use the couples wedding hash tag #laurenandandy2018 which is always a great way for your Instagram fam to enjoy all the guests photos.

Their Newstead Rotunda wedding ceremony was timed perfectly, with the rotunda having just been freshly painted and with a brand new roof, in 10 years of weddings in Brisbane I have never seen the rotunda looking this fresh! They were also blessed with a beautiful day!

The couple planned a non-traditional wedding where they put tradition aside and simply did everything their own way, to ensure their guests and them enjoyed every moment of their Newstead rotunda and Eat Street Markets wedding. On arrival, the couples daughter Bella was walking down the long curving aisle, when just past the half way point she spotted Andrew, broke free and excitedly sprinted to the rotunda to wrap her little arms around his legs, much to the amusement of the guests. Meanwhile Lauren followed her bridesmaids down the aisle arriving with her ‘glowing with pride’ Mum.

I love seeing Photographers capture the ceremony from this angle with all the guests looking on in the background which is why I try to deliver much of the ceremony from the side.

I couldn’t have been happier to receive the following feedback from the happy couple:

“Cara was amazing!

She made the process so easy for the day.

Answered any questions, big or small for us, had advice for the little things and even gave us Honeymoon travel tips.

We couldn’t have chosen a better celebrant for our day! Thank you so much Cara!”

Landing at Dockside Wedding Ceremony

With Jamie Eastgate of Brisbane City Celebrants

Congratulations Jamie on receiving such wonderful feedback from your couples.

Jamie tells us, it seriously makes his day whenever he receives feedback and kind words like this from his couples.

“Thank you so much for everything! We could not have asked for better Celebrant” Jon & Mandy – Landing at Dockside Wedding Ceremony

Jon and Mandy’s special day was beautifully captured by Susie Yang Photographer. Susie captured one of the most stunning images we’ve ever seen of the grooms reaction to his beautiful bride walking down the aisle towards him, a truly gorgeous couple!

What an adorable little ring bearer!

There is no doubt from these stunning images that a great day and night was had by all, congratulations to the happy newly-weds.

Preston Peak Winery Wedding

Preston Peak Winery Wedding with Celebrant Jamie Eastgate

Jade and Aaron’s Preston Peak Winery wedding was a day full of happiness, celebration and fun!

Preston_Peak_Marriage_Celebrant.jpg

The couple who met while both training for a half iron man, created a day that was truly ‘them’ with their own unique handmade rustic style decorations for both the ceremony and reception, coupled with injecting their fun personalities in to their day with elements like a custom made floral crown for the resident donkey, and a fire pit for guests to gather around over a wine as the sun set.

“Our ceremony was overlooking the Toowoomba Range with a gorgeous arch way we created.

Jamie and Brisbane City Celebrants were just amazing, everyone loved the ceremony and how it was so Aaron and I. Jamie pre wedding was fantastic and available for any questions or help we required.”

While the forecast was for a massive amount of rain, unbelievably as Jade arrived with her bridesmaids, the clouds cleared and the sun shone through the dramatic clouds with not a drop of rain to be seen.

Preston Peak Winery has a breath taking backdrop and Jade and Aaron raved about the delicious food they all enjoyed. Photographer Tall Timber Studio was on hand to capture all the happiness of the day.

A love and light filled Brisbane wedding

With Celebrant Jamie Eastgate of Brisbane City Celebrants

A love and light filled Brisbane wedding

We worked together during our university days at the local cinema.  I was intrigued by his unusual surname and wondered if he was related to a girl I went to high school with who had the same last name. It turned out it was his sister! From there, we started talking, and hanging out and the rest is history!

Andy says he knew he loved me when he heard me blowing my nose under the shower water and admired how I always finished everything on my dinner plate (how unromantic is that?)

I knew I loved him when he bought a brand new bed and linen 3 weeks after we met, after I threatened to never stay at his house again after witnessing the state of his old mattress and manky doona!

Our Celebrant Jamie actually shared these corkers during our ceremony much to the amusement of our guests.

On a more sentimental note, we actually both said “the L word” on New Year’s Eve 2006. Ironically we’d both spoken to our friends about divulging how we felt about each other prior to this (without the other knowing) and after we were winding down after a fun night out celebrating, the conversation started and out it came…..

When it came to the proposal, Andy had actually designed and purchased the ring almost 12 months before he proposed.

One night I went to the hairdresser after work and Andy asked me to stop and get some Thai takeaway on the way home. When I got home, I noticed that there weren’t any lights on in the house, but the front door was open. When I got inside, I was amazed to see there was a trail of fairy lights along the floor, that led me out to our back deck.

Here I found Andy waiting for me looking very nervous, he’d decorated our whole deck in candles and lights, the candles spelt ‘MARRY ME’.

He’d pre-prepared a little speech outlining the reasons why I should marry him, why he’d be a good husband and hilariously, the reasons why he’d understand if I said no (e.g. his ear hair).  Then he called our pug Baxter over who had the ring on his collar and proposed.  I laughed nervously the whole time but of course I said YES!!!

When planning our wedding, the important elements to us were that it was spacious, standing affair, preferably outdoors or with a view and live music.  The rest just came together and evolved in to an elegant modern vintage style with bursts of brightly coloured florals.

We hired the 2 lawns at Lower River Terrace in Kangaroo Point, one for the wedding ceremony, the other for cocktail hour drinks, nibbles and lawn games.

Jamie Eastgate from Brisbane City Celebrants performed our ceremony and he was awesome! So helpful both before and on the day. Our 2 dogs Baxter and Ollie joined us for the ceremony and wore suits that perfectly matched Andy’s!

We also had an amazing long table and arbour set up with the most exquisite hanging florals and décor created by Brisbane Wedding Decorators. What I had in my mind and what they created were worlds apart, for all the right reasons.

Brisbane Wedding Decorators made an ‘idea’ into the most beautiful reality – I was so gobsmacked when I saw the tables, chairs, arch and floral work, I couldn’t recommend them more highly! We were so lucky to have their help on our special day.

We celebrated our reception with ‘fork and walk’ style catering at Riverlife beneath a marquee on the Brisbane river.

Following cocktail hour, the tolix style bar tables and stools we hired through Brisbane Wedding Decorators for the post ceremony nibbles and drinks, were relocated to the reception area and decorated with small vases of pink and white blooms. The whole look was candle lit without being too soft.  We loved it.

Instead of having a cake, my mum cooked up a storm of her well known favourites (e.g. magic slice, caramel slice) and my best friend Kim made her world famous choc chip cookies for dessert.

We also surprised our guests with Ruby the Red Ice Cream Van who made her arrival at about 9pm.  Our guests loved being able to go and get an ‘old school’ ice-cream on the night.

We have so many memorable moments from our day!

  • I loved seeing my Dad’s face when he saw me all dressed for the first time;
  • Getting goosebumps when we were announced by our Celebrant Jamie Eastgate as husband and wife;
  • Seeing Brisbane Wedding Decorators beautiful long table set up in the park;
  • Dancing with my dad (it was quite the scene and involved all sorts of shoulder shimmying!);
  • Standing at the back of the deck watching all our guests jumping around dancing to the band;
  • and the amazing gondola my parents hired to pick us up at the end of the night and take us for a beautiful ride down the river and to our accommodation at Stamford Plaza.  We had about an hour, just the two of us on the gondola, watching the city go by – it was our first chance to really ‘catch up’ with one another about the day.

My advice for brides and grooms to be is to spend the time getting your run sheet for the day accurate and detailed.

Give copies to a few trusted friends and your MC.  This helped our day run smoothly as the order of events/ timing was knowledge shared and everyone helped keep things going along.  Include contact details for key people – it made the world of difference. Oh and eat! Eat breakfast and lunch, and snack where you can.  All the adrenaline makes you hungry!

Finally, from the bride’s perspective – pack yourself a pair of those little fold up ballet flats….!

Macarthur Park Wedding Chapel and Gardens Celebrant

I was so happy to be asked to be the Macarthur Park Wedding Chapel and Gardens Celebrant for Niki and Darrell’s recent wedding and to receive this glowing 5 STAR REVIEW:

“Jamie was great, from our very first meeting, through to our wedding day and afterwards, enabling us to enjoy our ceremony knowing it was all taken care of – thank you Jamie!”

The happy couples Macarthur Park wedding ceremony was filled with happiness and laughter, they were so relaxed as they exchanged vows and tied the knot.

I was first introduced to this venue located at Brisbane’s South East, last year during my annual Celebrant Training, known as OPD – Ongoing Professional Development which all Celebrants are required to attend to keep us up to date with changes to marriage. As part of our training we were taken on a tour of several wedding venues around the Redlands and I was so impressed to see this lovingly renovated old chapel in addition to the garden wedding ceremony location.

The venue only accepts one booking at a time, which means those opting for a garden ceremony, always have the chapel available as a great wet weather back up option if the need arises so the prospect of rain needn’t dampen anyone’s day.

While the happy couple had a professional photographer on hand, the owners were kind enough to take some great photos of the ceremony, so the newlyweds could re-live their special ceremony while they await their professional images.

Niki and Darrell’s opted for the ceremony gardens with the rainforest backdrop.

Nothing makes me happier than receiving a 5 star review from my happy newly-weds. Thank you so much for your kind feedback!

A stylish same sex Brisbane wedding

A stylish same sex Brisbane wedding with Celebrant Jamie Eastgate

It was such an honour to be a part of Paul and Paul’s stylish same sex Brisbane wedding as they celebrated their commitment and happiness by tying the knot in the presence of a large gathering of family and friends that all mean the world to them.

Paul and Paul celebrated their commitment in a glamorous and stylish ceremony at Brisbane’s exquisite Cloudland venue with a dream team of wedding suppliers to ensure their day was nothing short of amazing.

Paul and Paul kindly provided the following glowing testimonial for their Celebrant Jamie Eastgate:

“Our Celebrant Jamie Eastgate from Brisbane City Celebrants was wonderful! He was professional, warm and caring. His ability to speak in front of everyone was perfect and eloquent.

Communication between us and Brisbane City Celebrants was regular and genuine. A personal and sincere interest in your life and how your wedding plans were coming together was apparent and appreciated during our correspondence leading up to our special day. We were so, so, so happy we went with Brisbane City Celebrants!”

Paul and Paul’s tell us about their wedding ceremony:

“We all walked down the aisle paired off, hand in hand with 16 Strings quartet playing ‘I can’t help falling in love’ by Elvis.

16 Strings quartet are amazingly skilled and having them there made the whole ceremony experience feel so much more special.

Having someone play a song for you just feels so much more personal. We were absolutely blown away and so glad we made the choice to have a string quartet.

Our ceremony was sentimental, light hearted, fashionable and in part comical! This perfectly reflects our life together and our relationship, so it was very fitting and very ‘us’. During the ceremony there were both heartfelt tears and roars of laughter, we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

Our Celebrant Jamie Eastgate from Brisbane City Celebrants was wonderful! He was professional, warm and caring. His ability to speak in front of everyone was perfect and eloquent.

Our advice to other couples planning their wedding – Don’t cut any corners! You only want one wedding so do it exactly how you want. We also found it was great for everyone to have the ceremony and reception all at the one venue. Don’t select a service from a provider purely because it’s the cheapest, do your research and make sure you choose the best. It really pays off!

We loved EVERYTHING about our special day!”

Paul and Paul carefully selected an amazing ‘dream team’ of wedding vendors to enable them to turn their dream wedding in to reality, and from their fantastic feedback all their hard work and planning certainly paid off.

We would like to give a very special mention to Studio Impressions Photography who were a dream to work with and kind enough to allow us to share their images here.

We were so excited to hear that Paul and Paul’s immaculately captured wedding was featured in Bride to Be magazine!

Bride-to-Be-Magazine-Celebrants-Brisbane.jpg

The feature shares the story of the surprise proposal that took place at Paul’s 30th birthday party, the romance of sipping on French champagne in Paris while shopping for Paul’s engagement ring at Cartier and how Sex & the City’s Charlotte’s black mermaid style bridesmaid dress was their inspiration for their ‘groomsmaids’.

The connection between the 2 grooms throughout the ceremony was captivating! There were tears, smiles and roars of laughter.

Cloudland was a perfect fit for the owners of a leading Gold Coast hairdressing salon, being fashionable and sophisticated it provided the perfect atmosphere for both their ceremony and reception to take place.

Bride-to-Be-Magazine-Gay_Wedding_Celebrant.jpg

A ceremony full of love and laughter is a recipe for happily ever after. Their love shined throughout the ceremony which was only enhanced by the guests glowing with pride and happiness for the two grooms.

Summit Mt Coot-tha Wedding with Jamie

With Jamie Eastgate of Brisbane City Celebrants

It was an absolute privilege being the Celebrant for Maureen and David’s intimate and heartfelt Summit Mt Coot-tha wedding.

The happy couple married at Summit Restaurant on the top of Mt Coot-tha on a clear Summers day with sweeping views of Brisbane in the backdrop.

The happy couple enjoyed a first look photo shoot in the Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens with their photographer Jonas Peterson where David walked up to Maureen and they locked eyes as bride and groom for the first time in this intimate setting.

First look shoots are increasingly popular with couples who love the idea of having their location photos take place earlier in the day, so once the ceremony concludes they aren’t separated from their guests and they can get straight in to the celebrations. It’s also great for the guests as it usually means a later ceremony that transitions straight in to the reception with no waiting in between.

The couple wrote thoughtful, heartfelt, emotional and meaningful vows to each other. There were tears, laughter and above all else they both glowed with love!

Congratulations to the happy newlyweds and thank you for choosing me for your Summit Mt Coot-tha wedding.

Orleigh park wedding with a dog ring bearer

Orleigh park wedding with a dog ring bearer

Needless to say dog loving Celebrant Jamie Eastgate of Brisbane City Celebrants loved being a part of this Orleigh Park wedding with the couples dog Diego playing the very important role of ring bearer for the happy couple.

Bride and Groom: Robyn and Tom

Wedding Ceremony Location: Orleigh Park, West End, Brisbane

Tell us about your ceremony:

We were at a complete loss when it came time to decide on a location for our wedding. While we really liked the greenery of the hinterland, we really wanted somewhere close to the city. Orleigh Park provided the perfect setting with massive trees framing the river setting and just 10 minutes from the city.

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect and relaxed setting.

Orleigh Park Wedding Celebrant Jamie Eastgate2

Reception Location:

South Brisbane Boat Club

Tell us about your reception:

It was really important for us to have the reception as close as possible to the ceremony. The boat hall was in a great location – right on the river and next to our wedding ceremony location, Orleigh Park.

The inside of the hall provided so much character and provided a lovely setting with the windows opened to make the most of the river views. The best thing about the hall is that we were able to do everything the way we wanted.

While it was a bit more work decorating and organising catering, alcohol and the rest, it was definitely worth it!

Orleigh Park Wedding Celebrant Jamie Eastgate5

What we loved:

Neither of us are very traditional which can be a bit of an issue when organising a wedding. So when we started planning we decided not to do anything that made us uncomfortable (the first dance, bouquet throwing and garter toss all ended up getting scrapped).

We loved being able to surprise everyone by making our day uniquely ‘us’. It was great having a relaxed wedding where there was no pressure, instead the focus was on celebrating with family and friends.

Describe your experience with Jamie from Brisbane City Celebrants:

When it came to planning the ceremony, we really didn’t have a clue what we were meant to do. The only thing we were certain of is that we wanted it to be personalised and short. Jamie was great in helping two absolutely clueless (and slightly stressed) newbies create the perfect ceremony.

Being able to choose the wording we wanted along with the guidance of the ceremony run sheet made planning the ceremony far easier than we thought it would be.

Jamie, thank you for all your help in making our wedding day perfect. We were so pleased to be able to do everything our way and I can honestly say ours was the best wedding I have been to so far!

You really helped to take some of the stress out of the day, it was great knowing that everything was taken care of for the ceremony and all we had to do was show up – which was nerve-racking enough!

Tell us about any of your other wedding suppliers that you were impressed with:

Your advice to bride and grooms to be:

Don’t let anyone pressure you in to doing what doesn’t feel right. It’s also very easy to keep pushing out the budget. We decided to make budgeting easier by spending the most money on things that would be seen in our wedding photos later on.

The rest of those smaller details (while nice) probably won’t be remembered by your guests when they go home.
